![]() ![]() So long as you don't press 'Enter' you can try possible answers to see how they look on screen. It also appears at the end of plenty of words.įinally, try out possibilities. Plus, remember the Y - this sometimes acts as a surrogate vowel, and is easy to forget. A good Wordle start word should have used a couple, but if they don't feature you might well want to try another one or two on your next go. Vowels obviously need consideration too: not all Wordle answers will contain more than one, but plenty do, and some even have three. Some options are far more common than others - for instance, SH, ST, CR and CH all feature frequently. Secondly, think about combinations, especially at the start and end. But clever people (not me) have done the math and identified the best start words based on both frequency in English and frequency among Wordle answers. Without one, you'll be scrabbling around in the dark trying (and possibly failing) to find the right five letters (or possibly fewer) out of the 26 possibles. I can't stress this enough - it makes a massive difference. The best tip I can give is to use one of the best Wordle start words. If you're looking for a list of older Wordle answers, we can also help. Suffice it to say there are some in there that I'd have really struggled with. * WordleBot's full list of 16 remaining answers: CONDO, HELLO, CELLO, GONZO, GECKO, DOGGO, CHEMO, MEZZO, SCHMO, BONGO, BOFFO, QUESTO, FUNGO, GUMBO, COMBO and JUMBO. Hopefully today's puzzle didn't trip you up, Wordlers. The word had to be HELLO and, sure enough, it was. The good news is that left a figurative tap-in for my final go. I opted for the latter with CELLO and it was painfully close, turning the last four letters green. That left me thinking that there was probably a second vowel - either a repeated 'O' (e.g: CONDO) or a second 'L'. I was mistaken: although it ruled out ten more words, it didn't reveal any additional letters. I decided JUMBO would be a good second word, given it contains another vowel. STALE (14) narrowly beat it, and if you played DEALT (seven) you'd be in a great position. That made it hard to beat amongst WordleBot's suggestions though LEAST (25 possible answers) ran it close. Indeed, RATIO eliminated all but 16 possible answers*. RATIO was a particularly strong start word today as there simply aren't that many words that end in 'O'. Especially with my start word giving me a big helping hand with that green 'O' right off the bat. Uniquely, my traditional greeting contains today's Wordle answer, which makes it a bit odd that I didn't get it faster. Reading this in a later time zone? The Wordle answer for game #783 was HELLO. * These were: DYING, VYING, WHIFF, WHINY, WHIZZ, CUING, WHICH, ICING, CHICK, JUICY and UNIFY. From there, it just made sense to try QUICK, which to my delight, turned all green.Ī bit fortunate given there were 11 other options*, but hey: a gentleman makes his own luck. I stared at the board for quite a while here, considering words beginning CHI (CHICK?) before I realized that QUI was possible. This, in turn, reduced the number of possible answers to just 12. Unfortunately, it turned up nothing new, but it did confirm that 'I' sat in third place. I did that with SLIME, which also cunningly tests the 'I' in a new location. I wanted to test some of the common letters I'd missed off: 'E', 'L' and 'S'. ![]()
